For three thousand years, the star blinked.
Every 2.867 days, a bright star in Perseus lost a third of its light — then recovered, as if nothing had happened. Medieval astronomers named it Raʻs al‑Ghūl رأس الغول — the head of the demon. Sailors avoided it. Astrologers feared it. The sky’s most reliable rhythm was mistaken for its most sinister omen.
It was never a demon. It was a system.
In 1783, John Goodricke proposed the truth: two stars bound by gravity, circling a shared centre — one eclipsing the other with mechanical precision. Nothing was wrong with Algol. Something was exactly, repeatably right.
The terror was a clock.
What generations read as chaos was the most precise mechanism in the northern sky. That inversion — fear resolving into understanding — is the founding idea of Algol Labs. Order was there all along. It only needed to be seen.
